The Good Old Days...

I was way to young to fully appreciate the greatness of a proper movie poster. When I say proper I mean those hand painted ones from way back in the day...

I'm obsessed with Sci-Fi films, visually they are amazing, particularly the older ones from the 70's 80's and early 90's. Two of my all time favourite films are Flash Gordon and Logan's Run. If you haven't seen both of these films your life really isn't worth living...!

60 Days 'Till we Get Laid

A little while back I teamed up with Photographer Ian Cole to work on his quarterly arthouse fashion journal entitled Supplementaire. It's online now as a magazine but it can also be bought as a 12"x12" 320 page hard back. No corporate pretence, no ads, just art...

Here's a little sample...

Ian and I actually go quite far back. When I say quite far I mean back to the dawn of my career as a fashion stylist. He was the first photographer I ever worked with. The shoot wasn't great but one image has managed to survive almost 3 years in my portfolio.

The only Womenswear I will bring you...

I have an appreciation for things that I am unable to do. I love seeing people with talents and abilities that I do not posses. Bellow are some illustrations by my good friend Nadia El Meallem.

I can see there are mixed mediums in these pieces of art which I find quite impressive. I'm slightly jealous. If I was able to do stuff like this maybe I would have passed my course in college. Maybe life would just be nicer. Who knows.

Anyway, well done Nadia.

The only companionship I need

Thank god for Facebook because this could have been embarrassing.

Those who know me will know that I have the worlds worst memory. They will also know that I have an attention spac comparrable to that of a fly. These two factors have been know in the past to get me into a hell of a lot of trouble. Today however I was saved by the grace that is Facebook.

Here is how the story goes...

There is a certain person who's name I have always believed to be synonymous with legendary. He is always at the forefront of any conversation regarding his specific craft within the fashion industry. Dominik and I are always talking about this person with such admiration it is actually insane. It's one of those scenarios where I would have been more than honored to meet this person and simply shake his hand. So I decided to request this persons friendship on Facebook. I felt that it was probably the closest I was ever going to get to actually meeting them in person. They accepted my request however no form of communication was established by ether of us which I was totally fine with until today.

I decided I wanted to learn a little more about this person so I clicked on their profile and thought that maybe I would even leave a comment stating how amazing I thought their work was. Well, after clicking on said persons profile I decided to have a good old gander at their photos and boy did I recieve the biggest shock of my life. It turns out that not only did I recognize the face of this person, but we had actually met. On several occasions.

I think it may have been a case where every time we met I was either too drunk or to unfocused to take note of his name and profession. How stupid do I feel?

Thank god I discovered this via Facebook though. Just imagine if we had met again at another event with all our peers and colleagues and I had said something stupid like

"So what do you do?"

I can just imagine the expression on everyone's face as I literally commit social/career suicide. It would be a travesty. Even my great great grand children would be ashamed of me.

His name is Rick Day. He is based in New York.

If money wasn't an issue I would send a jet to pick him up and fly him over here just so that I could work with him. Rick day has a distinctive style of photography that truly does inspire. Every image he creates is so perfectly composed as though each shot were an individual work of art. From the razor sharp styling to the perfectly cast models there are no faults to be found.

"What I Saw Today"...The blog of another man

So very rarely will I take it upon myself to write about another blog, usually if I like a blog I'll just put a link to it in my sidebar. Well today I have coma across something that I must write about.

What I Saw Today Is similar to your regular street style or trend spotting blogs in a sense that there are pictures of people in their chosen attires and in various locations, quite similar in layout to the ever popular The Sartorialist blog. Nothing original there one might say however what I failed to mention is that these images are not photographs like you would find on other sites and blogs.


They are sketches!

I think the reason I truley love this blog may have something to do with the fact that I can't draw. It is a shamefull fact for someone who works in fashion but it's true. So to see originality of this level and in this format is so genuinely refreshing.

He is a talented New Yorker whos' blog I hope will be around for a long time.

Let's be serious for a second

This song is serious. From the video which resembles the style of some graphic novels to the lyrics which clearly have a political theme.

I don't know anything about the artists, all I do know is that this is art.

I'll cut my toes off to make them fit!

Where do I even begin. These trainers are not to die for because if I died I wouldn't be able to enjoy them. These trainers are to kill for and I think I would slaughter a whole nation to own a pair.

So he brought us the Swarovski head before but this time around he was painted to look like leaves and had pretty butterflies as well.

It's an art I truely do apreciate. It's an expresion of his individuality. When I was in school we used to cut Nike ticks and Dragons into our hair. I think that this is the next step on.
